J.T.LAURITSEN & THE BUCKSHOT HUNTERS
SQEEZEBOXING
HUNTER 00107
J.T.Lauritsen has been on the Blues scene in Norway for years, and with 5 albums
under his belt, he know show to get audiences moving. He traveled to Maryland to record this album,
Squeezeboxing, at Severn Record’s studio,
augmenting his Buckshot Hunters with Severn regulars Steve Gomes, Benje Porecki and Rob Stupka.
Lauritsen`s music encompasses a polished mix of early rock`n roll ,Tex-Mex,
R&B, and earthy Texas blues. A clever songwriter, he opens with ¨ The Bug¨, a
horn filled foot-tapper with a swampy accordion solo. Other standouts include covers
of Leon Russell`s moving ¨ Help me trough the day, ¨ where Lauritsen`s high-end harp
answers Arnfinn Torrisen`s guitars riffs, and Tom T. Hall`s ¨ That’s how I got to Memphis¨ where Lauritsen wrings extra emotions from his Squeezebox.
An original called ¨ Time 4 bed ¨ and T bone Walker’s ¨ Tell me what’s the reason ¨illustrate Lauritsen`s dance floor appeal.
He also recuts two tunes from his 1999 album My kind of Blues, updating ¨Bald headed woman¨ with a more mature delivery and transforming.
¨ I just love you like a said ,¨ originally an uptempo Memphis rock song, into an emotion-drenched ballad. Like many of his Norwegian blues contemporaries,
Lauritsen`s musical capacities continue to grow.
